September 2025 President's Letter
Dear Colleagues,
I hope everyone has had a restorative summer as we now look ahead to a busy fall for our Society. September brings us back together with an important educational program, and I encourage you and your teams to join us.

September CE Program
Our September Continuing Education program will feature:
“Antibiotic Prophylaxis – The Adoption of Recent Concepts”
Presented by: Dr. Ronald S. Brown, Howard University College of Dentistry
DCDS Headquarters, 2001 K Street NW, 3rd Floor North
Tuesday, September 9, 2025

6:00 PM – 8:15 PM

This lecture will cover the latest concepts in antibiotic prophylaxis, addressing best practices for patient safety and treatment outcomes. Dinner will be provided for in-person attendees, and CE credits will be awarded.

We are grateful to Dr. Brown for sharing his expertise, and we encourage all members to take advantage of this opportunity for both learning and professional growth.

Looking Ahead

This October, Washington, D.C. will host the ADA’s SmileCon, October 23–25—the very last SmileCon in this format. DCDS is proud to be part of this event.

On Saturday, October 25, we will hold our Symposium for Licensure in conjunction with SmileCon. This program will provide the required courses for the upcoming DC license renewal period, ensuring that our members and their staff have access to the content needed for licensure compliance:

• Prescription Opioid Crisis
• Ethics in Dental Practice: The Risks Associated with Non-Adherence Clinically
• Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Deep: A deeper dive into infection control's messiest mistakes and must-do protocols

• LGBTQIA+ Care in Dentistry

Attendees will have access to a number of functions for ADA SmileCon as well as a bonus presentation over lunch to support member dental practices, “Stop Overpaying your Taxes and Protect Your Wealth!” These SmileCon functions are included with your registration for free:

• Access to the Friday Fest – details to be announced soon
• Saturday access to the ADA exhibit hall, Dental Central
• Access to the Saturday Tailgate and the closing of SmileCon
Please register on the ADA Smilecon website

Thank you, as always, for your commitment to our profession and to the DC Dental Society. I look forward to seeing many of you at our September CE program as we launch into an exciting season ahead.
Warm regards,
Dr. Hillary Rosse Abel
