Meeting Description:

As the population ages, an increasing number of patients are unable to access traditional office-based dental care due to medical complexity, mobility limitations, and cognitive decline. This course explores the clinical, ethical, and practical realities of providing dental care to homebound and institutionalized older adults through a house call model.
Attendees will learn how geriatric house call dentistry can be delivered safely, efficiently, and responsibly while maintaining professional standards, managing risk, and improving access to care. The lecture will address patient selection, portable equipment, infection control, documentation, consent and capacity considerations, caregiver dynamics, and appropriate scope of treatment. The course will also explore how house call dentistry can function as a viable practice model or adjunct to traditional practice.
This program is designed for general dentists seeking to expand their understanding of geriatric care delivery, explore alternative practice models, or better serve aging patients within their communities.
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify barriers that prevent older adults from accessing traditional dental care
2. Understand the clinical scope and limitations of geriatric house call dentistry
3. Describe appropriate patient selection and risk management strategies
4. Recognize consent, capacity, and documentation considerations in geriatric care

5. Evaluate how house call dentistry can function as a sustainable professional mode
