DC Medicaid Publishes Updated List of Dental Codes
On January 1, 2026, the Department of Health Care Finance/DC Medicaid published an updated list of valid billing codes under Medicaid, including changes to dental codes. The full list of Medicaid billing codes is available on the DC Medicaid website.
Several codes were discontinued by the ADA, and therefore by DC Medicaid in 2026: D1352, D1705, D1706, D1707, D1712 and D9248
Of new dental codes created for 2026, coverage was added for the following dental codes:
- D6949 - Scale implt peri-implt inflm
- D9224 - Gen anes adv air-15 min
- D9225 - Gen anes adv air-sub 15 min
- D9244 - Office min sed drug enteral
- D9245 - Admin mod sedation-enteral
- D9246 - Mod sedation noniv-15 min
- D9247 - Mod sedation noniv-sub15min
Dentists are encouraged to verify patient eligibility and to review the full list of active dental billing codes under Medicaid to confirm coverage for dental procedures.
Higher Medicaid Rates Arrive - Fees for 125 Dental Codes Take Effect October 1, 2025
After several years of advocacy by DCDS for higher Medicaid rates paid for covered dental procedures, Mayor Muriel Bowser included funding to increase rates for 125 dental codes in the Fiscal Year 2026 budget. The Department of Health Care Finance published a list of the codes that will be increased effective October 1, 2025.
DCDS prepared a list of all dental codes that highlights the 125 dental codes that were increased. This file is in Excel format and will download when this link is clicked.
