Past Monthly Meetings

The DCDS offers regular, complimentary CE programming to its members each year between September and May. Monthly meetings are usually on the second Tuesday of the month (depending on holidays and other events). In addition to learning the latest innovations and techniques in dentistry from world-renowned speakers from across the country, DCDS monthly meetings give attendees an opportunity to share ideas, information and network with one another. Nonmembers may attend DCDS monthly meetings for a small fee.

Course Description: Tuesday October 13, 2020

This course will provide dental professionals a review of pathologic oral conditions commonly encountered in the dental practice, as well as those less common but clinically significant entities. Numerous clinical images will be provided to give the clinician a thorough review of multiple pathologic processes.  The instructor will review appropriate therapy and management suggestions of these lesions. 

Learning Objectives Session 1:
At the end of this session participants will be able to:
1. Recognize clinical features of a spectrum of oral lesions including entities from the following categories:
a. Infections
b. Ulcers and immune-mediated disease
c. Benign soft tissue proliferations
2. Diagnose and be familiar with how to treat a variety of common and/or significant oral lesions 
3.  Recognize indications for referral 

Learning Objectives Session 2:
At the end of this session participants will be able to:
1. Recognize clinical features of a spectrum of oral lesions including entities from the following categories:
a. Premalignant and malignant epithelial lesions
b. Common and significant radiolucent and radiopaque entities
2. Diagnose and be familiar with how to treat a variety of common and/or significant oral lesions 
3.  Recognize indications for referral

About the Speaker: Kitrina Cordell, DDS, MS 
 Dr. Cordell Photo

Dr. Kitrina Cordell is the Chair of the Department of Diagnostic Sciences and Associate Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Dentistry. Dr. Cordell received her DDS and MS in oral and maxillofacial pathology from The Ohio State University. Prior to joining the faculty at LSU, Dr. Cordell was a member of the faculty at the University of Michigan where she also served as director of the Oral Pathology Biopsy Service. Dr. Cordell is responsible for educating students in all levels of training in both clinical and didactic settings. She is an active participant of the LSU Oral Pathology Biopsy Service and works in the Faculty Dental Practice diagnosing and treating patients with oral pathology needs. Dr. Cordell has published in a number of peer reviewed journals and serves as a reviewer for several journals as well. Dr. Cordell is member of the North American Society of Head and Neck Pathology, a tripartite member of the American Dental Association, a Fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.
