The DCDS offers regular, complimentary CE programming to its members each year between September and May. Monthly meetings are usually on the second Tuesday of the month (depending on holidays and other events). In addition to learning the latest innovations and techniques in dentistry from world-renowned speakers from across the country, DCDS monthly meetings give attendees an opportunity to share ideas, information and network with one another. Nonmembers may attend DCDS monthly meetings for a small fee.

Course Description: Tuesday, December 10, 2019

The D.C. Dental Society is proud to announce that we will host an LGBTQ Cultural Competency Meeting prior to our December Monthly Meeting at the Washington Marriott Georgetown. The meeting speaker is  Jasmin Haley, RDH, MSDH, CDA.

The Future of Diversity in Dentistry

Dental professionals value the role that diversity contributes to society. Diversity has evolved and includes more than race and ethnicity. Many diverse populations are underserved or overlooked. There are a number of populations that have growing evidence of health disparities. Dental professionals must prepare themselves for the future of diversity and develop strategies to provide the best patient-centered care. This course will provide cultural sensitivity training for the LGBTQIA population.

Learning Objectives:

1. Define diversity and its contribution to the patient perception.
2. Discuss unique subsets of the populations that are often overlooked.
3. Identify strategies that will promote cultural and linguistically competent care
