Session Abstract
The recent evolution in ceramic and CAD/CAM technologies is breathtaking but leavesmany open questions in restorative and implant dentistry.
What are the fundamental esthetic and treatment planning guidelines? How to handle laminate veneers? How to select the best treatment options for patients considering the large variety of silica-based, high-strength, and hybrid ceramic materials as well as adhesive technologies and digital workflows? Do different ceramics require specific laboratory and clinical treatment to function properly in the mouth? Is all zirconia the same? And, in this age of “evidence-based dentistry”, what is the scientific evidence?
This presentation will answer such questions and discuss esthetic, less invasive, and long- term functional treatment options, ranging from conservative veneers to implant-supported full- mouth rehabilitations. Fundamental esthetic parameters and soft-tissue considerations will be discussed. As reliable cementation protocols are fundamental for clinical success of ceramic restorations, the simple APC-zirconia-bonding concept and other ceramic bonding strategies will be introduced. Case selection, tooth preparation, esthetics with dental implants, digital manufacturing options in the lab and in clinics, fundamental material sciences, cementation techniques, and resin bonding technologies of ceramics based on decades of research and the latest scientific evidence will be presented.
Learning objectives
• Implement fundamental esthetic and treatment planning guidelines• Differentiate modern ceramic and hybrid materials and their indications
• Learn about CAD/CAM technology and its diverse applications
• Understand strategies for success with ceramic restorations for teeth and implants based on the current scientific evidence
• Comprehend adhesive dentistry in combination with indirect restorations
• Understand guidelines for successful and long-lasting esthetic restorations from laminate veneers to full-mouth implant-supported rehabilitation
