What will you be doing on March 29, 2019? We hope you will be joining your DCDS colleagues at Georgetown University Conference Center for the Spring Meeting!
If you’ve been following President Blake’s letters in the monthly newsletter, then you know all about the thinking that’s been going on to revitalize the Society’s annual meeting, which for the past few years has been called the Mid-Atlantic Dental Meeting. While in the past the Society’s annual meeting was always a money-maker, in the past few years that has changed. It’s not just the D.C. Dental Society – the annual meetings of other dental societies have been experiencing decreased attendance and sponsorship as well.
The Board convened a Working Group of volunteers that explored different types of meeting options. This group recommended that DCDS forgo a 2018 Mid-Atlantic Dental Meeting, and explore holding a one-day meeting in 2019.
What’s new about this one-day meeting? Dentists can get most of their DC licensing requirements in one day!
The DC Board of Dentistry has changed its licensing required-courses for this licensing period (January 1, 2018 – December 31, 2019). At the Spring Meeting, dentists can get all of their licensing requirements out of the way by taking these required courses:
- Infection Control – 2 hours (reduced from 4 hours)
- Ethics – 2 hours(new)
- Prescribing Drugs – 2 hours (new)
- LGBTQ Sensitivity Training – 1 hour (new)
The only licensing requirement which will not be offered is CPR. Dental hygienists and dental assistants will be able to get their licensing-required courses as well, so dentists can bring their entire teams.
The DCDS Board is committed to making this an affordable meeting for member dentists and their teams. There’s more information to come as plans develop, so stay tuned!
