Give Kids a Smile is a nationwide program first held by the American Dental Association (ADA) in 2003 to provide care and raise awareness of the importance of access to dental care to underserved children. The program initially began as a one-day event in February, but has since grown to local and national events year-round. Dentists and other team members volunteer their time, and services, to provide screenings, treatments and education to children throughout the United States. Each year, approximately 350,000 children benefit from more than 1,500 events, all because of the efforts of 40,000 or more annual volunteers.
The District of Columbia Dental Society, in conjunction with the American Dental Association and with the assistance and support of the Howard University College of Dentistry and the District of Columbia school system, will participate in the 2015 national "Give Kids a Smile Day". On February 6, 2015, over 200 children from Abram Simon Elementary School and Kimball Elementary School will receive free dental services ranging from education, treatment and follow-up care as part of the national Give Kids a Smile Day.
